Durham Store Manager Position
We are seeking a smart, enthusiastic manager who loves books and wants to develop and grow alongside us. Bookselling requires a wide range of skills and the ability to constantly adapt to unique situations. This is especially true at Golden Fig where employees will be expected to manage the space alone at times. The Manager position will be full-time (35 or more hours per week) and will likely take 3 or 4 weeks of training so we're hoping to make a hire as soon as we find an exciting candidate.

Responsibilities:
Lead the store in daily operations
Build and maintain positive relationships with our community and booksellers
Create a positive work environment while directing the training of, and providing feedback to, fellow booksellers
Manage inventory of supplies, used/new books, sidelines and place orders with distributors
Proactively brainstorm new systems/outreach/events/marketing to expand store recognition and traffic and streamline processes
Ability to take responsibility when things go awry and willingness to make judgment calls when required
Ensure store and booksellers remain true to the core values of Golden Fig
As a store manager you are the store’s leader in all aspects - inventory, operations, merchandising, customer service, etc.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in bookselling and management required
Is punctual, organized, and has excellent attention to detail
Has great interpersonal and customer service skills as well as the ability to exercise sound judgment in high-stress, multitasking situations
Strong delegation, follow up, and management skills
Has flexible availability to work nights and/or weekends
Is confident in recommending books and is knowledgeable across multiple genres
Is adaptable with an ability to problem-solve and fill needs as they occur throughout the course of a workday
Is capable of bearing a physically demanding job (able to lift boxes of books up to 50 lbs, shelve books, move and adjust displays, climb a ladder, be on your feet for most of the day, etc.)
Loves reading, physical books, and independent bookstores
Pay starts at $22/hr after a training period of 2-4 weeks at $17/hr
